Greater Noida (18/02/2022): Government institute of medical sciences is committed to provide excellent patient care to the population of Gautam Budh Nagar and western Uttar Pradesh. Type 1 Diabetes is a disease of mainly children and adolescents in which secretion of insulin is hampered and insulin remains the only option for treatment. These patients also requires peer and family support, continuous diabetes education and evaluation. India is having a large number of type 1 Diabetes population belonging to all the socio economic strata and are usually lost to follow up and later on present with complications. Taking into consideration these type 1 children, Government Institute of medical sciences has joined hands with Novo Nordisk to develop GIMS as a Centre of Excellence for type 1 Diabetes in which these children will be provided diabetes education, support, evaluation and Insulin.
The MOU has been signed between Novo Nordisk and GIMS for the same. A team of Novo Nordisk headed by Dinakaran P and comprising of Rakesh Singh and Kuldeep Kumar visited GIMS to hand over the MOU to GIMS authorities – Brig Dr Rakesh Gupta, Dr Saurabh Srivastava, Dr Rambha Pathak and Dr Anurag Srivastava. The development of the centre of excellence at GIMS will have far reaching impact on the lives of Type 1 children.
GIMS has also started registry of Type 1 patients for which the college website www.gims.ac.in has to be visited, a Google form linked to the diabetes clinic on patient portal is to filled. Also the patient have to consult the concerned doctors in Diabetes clinic on every Wednesday and Friday between 2-4 pm to avail these facilities.
