The Entrepreneurship Cell of Galgotias University started Talk Series on Social Entrepreneurship named as “The Social Call”. Under this talk series, Wasudev Mishra, Founder of social venture Silaigram gave the first talk. Silargram is a Social startup which upcycle waste from garment factories and decor shops to produce beautiful jholas (carry bags) and kurtis. All their products are stitched by underprivileged women in rural areas, thus helping them achieve financial independence. Wasudev is also one of the 12 teenagers shortlisted across India by Ashoka Innovators for the first global edition of its Young Changemakers programme.
Wasudev shared his journey of entrepreneurship, how he started at the age of 19 and how he convinced his family to support him. He also explained the concept of social entrepreneurship where it is for profit company but at the same time it is creating a positive social impact. “Entrepreneurship is not skill, it’s more of practicing specific behaviour with competencies,” he told students. He shared stories of Silaigram which started with 5 women, now has over 200 underprivileged women in small town Pulgaon near Wardha district. Wasudev concluded his talk by summarizing core competencies required for social entrepreneurship including Empathy, goal setting, demand for efficiency & quality.
