Greater Noida, 1 September, 2022: Six members of a gang were detained Tuesday by Noida police for allegedly entering into locked houses in and around Greater Noida and stealing jewels and other valuables valued roughly Rs 8 lakh.

According to authorities, a seventh member, a minor, has been transported to a juvenile facility.

According to the police, the suspects were Pankaj, Tarun, Karan alias Putla, Ajay, Rakesh, and Suraj, who lived in Tugalpur hamlet under Knowledge Park police station in Greater Noida.

Greater Noida Deputy Commissioner of Police Abhishek Verma stated, “The Beta-2 police have apprehended a group of robbers who would target houses that were either locked from the outside or went unanswered after knocking.

During interrogation, the accused disclosed that several of them had regular employment in the afternoon – some were vegetable vendors or junk sellers – and that at night they committed burglary and larceny targeting abandoned houses in Greater Noida.”

“The majority of them are thin and light-weight, allowing them to enter buildings through windows or exhaust fans put on the walls.

Thefts have grown in recent months, particularly at Greater Noida’s Ansal Housing Society and Ansal Golf Links. The accused are largely Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, or Bihar residents who have known each other for a long time “According to the DCP.

“Other gang members have fled to other districts, and the search for them is underway. We are questioning the individuals to whom the accused sold their stolen property.

Aside from jewellery, the accused took bathroom fittings, which are water pipes used in washbasins and pots.

The stolen products are currently worth Rs 8 lakh. However, we will have the jewellery evaluated by a gold evaluator to confirm the final value of the goods “He continued.

The suspects were intending to commit another burglary on Monday when they were apprehended at Ansal Housing Society during a police check by Beta-2 police station teams.

The police said they recovered a large amount of stolen jewellery and other goods from the accused, including a pair of earrings, four bangles, three pairs of anklets, Rs 18,000 in cash, around 20 bathroom fittings, including water pipes, four steel pipes, an air conditioner, and a refrigerator, as well as burglary equipment (hammers, screwdrivers, and saws).
