Out patient department in GIMS, Greater Noida is running at its pace with more than 2000 patients coming to hospital daily. Under the guidance of Director, Brig. Dr. Rakesh Gupta with District Leprosy Officer, Dr. Sunil Ghore, Gautam Buddha Nagar and continued efforts of Dr. Pihu Sethi, Assistant Proessor, Department of Dermatology, Venereology and Leprosy, GIMS, Greater Noida has started management of Leprosy patients under NLEP (National Leprosy Eradication Program).
GIMS has started Leprosy Clinic which runs separately on every Thursday from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Patients can get themselves evaluated and undergo investigations like skin biopsy and slit skin smear examination for diagnosis of Leprosy, register, and get free treatment in the form of blister packs for Leprosy. Patients who are living nearby and registered elsewhere, who have to travel at other primary care health centres for treatment every month will also be benefitted by this.
Leprosy is chronic and infectious disease mainly causing skin lesions and nerve damage. It can also affect eyes, bones and genitourinary system. It is curable with proper treatment. If not diagnosed and treated at early stages, may lead to permanent deformity, disability and social stigmata. This initiative is planned in keeping in mind the policies of NLEP and with hope that GIMS will help in reducing the disease burden.
