Trying to escape after chain snatching, arrested after encounter

Greater Noida: Two alleged snatchers were arrested after an encounter with the police on Sunday evening. The two men had allegedly snatched a gold chain from a woman outside a high rise in Bisrakh and were trying to flee.

The suspects have been identified as Vikram alias Vicky and Prateek. Vicky is a resident of Aligarh and Prateek is a resident of Ambedkar Nagar, the police said.

Vaibhav Krishna, senior superintendent of police, Gautam Budh Nagar, said the police received a call from a woman that two bike-borne men had snatched her gold chain outside Sky Gardens society. “A police team swung into action and launched a search. The police intercepted the two suspects fleeing on a TVS Apache motorcycle. The team signalled them to stop, but they tried to escape after opening fire at the police team,” he said.

The police opened fire in retaliation in which both the suspects were hit in their legs and fell down on the road. The police team apprehended the suspects and recovered the stolen chain from their possession.

“The two suspects have been sent to the district hospital for medical care. We are gathering information about their criminal record. They will be produced in court and sent to judicial custody once they are discharged from the hospital,” Krishna said.
