World Cancer Day at I.T.S Dental College, Greater Noida

The ‘World Cancer Day’ was observed on 6 th February 2017 at Vivekananda Auditorium of I.T.S Dental College, Hospital and Research Centre, Greater Noida.The Chief Guest for the occasion was Dr Anshuman Kumar, Director- Dharamshila Cancer Hospital, New Delhi and Mr. Sohil Chadha, Vice Chairman: I.T.S – The Education Group. Also present on the occasion were Prof Anmol S Kalha, Director – PG Studies, Dr. Puneet Ahuja,Principal, all dental and medical HODs, faculty members and students.Vice – Chairman of I.T.S – The Education Group Mr Sohil Chadha in his address told that majority of cancer related deaths are in the age group of 35-50 years which are the most productive years of a person. He told cancer addiction is not only social burden but also a huge financial burden on family and nation as well. Dr Anshuman Kumar, addressed the gathering and mentioned that he was honoured to be part of the ceremony. He made a brief but very interesting presentation on the CANCER and reflected upon the darker aspect of cancer. He also the gathering about the various myths and facts associated with cancer. He motivated the students through his words of wisdom and emphasized upon the importance of understanding cancer as a Dentist.Dr. Anmol S Kalha, Director P.G Studies shared his words of wisdom and addressed the gathering. He emphasized upon the importance of knowledge of pathologies. He told that in India, tobacco consumption is responsible for more than 80% of the oral cancers in men and a quarter of all cancers in women, in addition to being a risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases.Dr. Puneet Ahuja, Principal apprised the gathering and emphasized upon role of dentist in preventing and early detection of Oral Cancer. He also told that dentist & medical professionals can do tobacco intervention at two levels – Individual and Community level. He warned the young generation about debilitating effects of tobacco & smoking as India is Nation of youth. Dr Monica Mehendiratta, Reader, Department of Oral Pathology gave a talk on "ORAL CANCER" wherein she reflected the statistics, importance of understanding cancer and the reason for celebrating "World Cancer Day".The Dramatic society of I.T.S Dental College, Greater Noida “YUVTANTRA” presented a street play named “MUKTI”, a skit depicting tobacco and its ill effect on oral & general health was performed on stage which was appreciated by all. After this award for various competitions like Chart / Poster making & sketching were also given to the winners by the Chief Guest. As a part of the World Cancer Day celebration, Oral Cancer Awareness Campaign was organized in Jagat Farms in association with Active Citizen Team from 02 – 04 February 2017 wherein around 200 patients were screened for oral cancer and dental diseases. Nukkad Natak was also performed by Yuvtantra, College Dramatic Society for the general public, which emphasized upon the harmful effects of tobacco and cancer. Mr Sohil Chadha applauded the students & faculty for serving the poor patients and the society
and organizing such program.
