Greater Noida, 20th September, 2022: In a joint operation with a SWAT unit on Sunday, the Gautam Budh Nagar Police detained three people for allegedly smuggling drugs such as California cannabis, MDMA, and ecstasy worth over Rs 29 lakh and providing them to college students across the country, including in Noida and Greater Noida.
Bhanu (25), Adhiraj (23) and Sonu Kumar (26)—all residents of Surajkund in Faridabad—were detained.
According to authorities, while Adhiraj was studying for his MBA, Sonu was running a cafe in Himachal Pradesh after finishing his BBA, and Bhanu was looking for work when he joined the group.
“There is a huge student population in Greater Noida, Noida, and Delhi-NCR.” The police had learned that certain miscreants distribute drugs to these kids by using online valet services to deliver the products and trading in bitcoin and cryptocurrency to avoid being caught,” said Abhishek Verma, deputy commissioner of police (Greater Noida).
To apprehend the suspects, the DCP pretended to be a buyer, communicated with them on social media, and enticed them to come to Greater Noida. Verma informed that the three were arrested at the LG junction in Surajpur.
“Of the three, Sonu Kumar operated a drug-supply Telegram group with at least 250 students from the Noida-Greater Noida area.” Interrogation of the three suspects revealed that the drugs were imported into the country from the United States. “We’re also looking for the suspects’ accomplices,” He further stated.
Before being sent to jail, the suspects were booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act and brought before a magistrate.
“We are also coordinating with other district police officers and the Narcotics Control Bureau to apprehend the entire gang,” the DCP stated.
