Mr. Rakesh Kumar conceived, planned and initiated the setting up of India’s first state of art infrastructure project for the cottage sector. The Rs.400 crores project has been set on Private Public Partnership model the first of its kind in the country for Cottage Sector. Mr. Kumar made various presentations before Committee of Secretaries (COS) and realized the project within a record time of 24 months. Hon’ble Prime Minister of India inaugurated the India’s first International Marketing complex in the month of January,2006 and appreciated the efforts made for filling up much needed gap of infrastructure for the Cottage and Handicrafts Sector which are one of the largest employment providing in rural and semi-urban areas.
Mr. Rakesh Kumar is Managing Director of this biggest infrastructure International Marketing hub created for the Cottage Sector . Mr. Rakesh Kumar Conceived and planned it on the lines of Dallas, Utrecht, Atlanta and other South East Asian Marts such as Thailand, Shanghai, etc., the India Expo Centre & Mart is one of the finest exposition and business centers ever to take shape in India.
With a total covered area close to 2,35,000 sq. mtrs. India Expo Centre & Mart have 900 permanent showrooms for exporters of handicrafts, handlooms, silk, jute and other synergy products, beside state of art exhibition complex. The Complex represents rare combination of grandeur and state-of-art facilities for conducting business on a global scale. This world class facility has started acting as centralize point for buyer and sellers from all over the world to converge and conduct business in India.
A Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) company has been created for the execution and management of the complex. India Expo Centre & Mart is the first of its kind set up for any sector for round ‘o’ clock international marketing.
India Expo Centre & Mart is being projected as a single sourcing hub for international trade and many organization like Tourism etc. have joined hands for projecting the complex as a sourcing point for cottage sector.
2. DEVELOPMENT & EXPORTS OF HANDICRAFTS Due to the progressive planning of Mr. Kumar the following clusters in last 10 years developed as Handicrafts Export Clusters: HANDICRAFT EXPORT CLUSTERS
This has been made possible due to the strategic planning and professional expertise of Mr. Kumar by providing common platform of selling & exporting Indian handicraft products from North to South and East to West.
This platform of Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair started in 1994 with 300 participants today witness more than 1800 participants and that too twice in a year:
Indian Handicrafts & Gifts Fair (IHGF) in last 14 years have become a single stop sourcing points for more than 25000 overseas buyers from all over the world. IHGF in true sense able to provide forward and backward linkages by providing livelihood to millions of craft persons from for flung areas.
The vision of Mr. Kumar is to create an additional 20 million jobs in the rural and semi urban areas and targeting to 50,000 crores exports in next 5 years. The road map for the same is already under implementation.
3. RAKESH KUMAR FIRST TO ESTABLISH INDIAN HANDICRAFTS IN UNEXPLORED JAPANESE MARKET ACHIEVED RAREST COMMENDATION
Rakesh Kumar is first to establish Indian Handicrafts in Japanese Market. Japanese gifts, handicrafts and consumer market is the most difficult in the world due to peculiar likings and tastes. Mr. Rakesh Kumar 15 years back made maiden efforts for tapping Japanese Market in association with Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) [ A body of Ministry of Trade & Industry of Govt. of Japan]. The exports of Indian Handicrafts increased manifolds due to the policies and promotion of Mr. Kumar. In recognition of his excellent services for establishing Indian Handicrafts as Japanese first choice the Japanese Govt. conferred “JETRO’s COMMENDATION AWARD” MR. KUMAR WAS 1ST INDIAN FOR THIS RAREST DISTRINCTION. A copy of the Citation of Govt. of Japan is enclosed. Japan External Trade Organisation regularly takes export advice for the marketing of Indian Handicrafts.
4. TO BEGIN DIRECT EXPORTS OF NORTH EASTERN HANDICRAFTS DUE TO AGGRESSIVE INTERNATIONAL MARKETING PROJECT UNDERTAKEN BY MR. KUMAR North Eastern Region is the toughest from the exports point of view and till date despite vigorous efforts none of the schemes / plan were able to provide employment generation to a scale. Mr. Kumar envisaged a unique project of Aggressive International Marketing Project with infusion of components of Human Resource Development, Training, Design & Product Development and International Marketing. This ambitious project attained unmatched successes with following major achievements:
All the Departments / Agencies associated with the development of North East have come forward to join hands for replicating the project on much wider scale with involving masses. A Large number of State Governments such as Orissa, Jharkhand, Chattisgarh, Uttaranchal etc. have requested to replicate the model of North East in their respective states from employment generation point of view. 5.
