A cultural evening at GLBIMR, Gr Noida to promote Indian classical music.

A spectacular cultural evening was organized at the leading management institute, GL Bajaj Institute of Management & Research, in association with SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music and Culture Amongst Youth) on February 6th Dr Urvashi Makkar, Director General, GLBIMR, along with the artists’ from SPIC MACAY inaugurated the grand event with evoking Goddess Saraswati. Smt. Malti Shyam, a legendary Kathak Artist from Lucknow Gharana, was the lead performer of the event, accompanied with leading Tabla artist, Shri Suraj Nirwan, Shri Santosh Sinha, Eminent Vocalist & Harmonium player and Ms. Yamika Mahesh. Dr Makkar in her inaugural remarks emphasized that, Indian Classical Dance & Music is one of the most expressive forms of art, and it is imperative for the students to experience the rich Indian Cultural Heritage, she further shared that SPIC MACAY is a revolution of Indian classical performing arts, intended to enrich the quality of formal education by increasing awareness about different aspects of Indian heritage and inspiring the young mind to imbibe the values embedded in it.
A mesmerizing performance of various forms of Kathak, by Smt Malti Shyam , left the audience awe struck & spell bounded. Malti Shyam went from strength to strength. "kanhaa kaahe chede bansuriya" making even Brijbhoomi glow, was evoked through elegantly tailored dance, with all kathak ingredients incorporated. In the ultimate abstraction of Krishna consciousness manifesting in the blue clouds, the rain, the call of the flute, the dance surpassed in masterly, involved presentation. It was a perfect blend of harmony depicting a beautiful conversation between mind, body & soul. Suraj Nirwan, Tabla artist charmed everyone with his captivative perfection on the instrument, his “rela” performance, truly recreated the sound of moving train in the auditorium. Soulful melody of Santosh Kumar Sinha & Yamika Mahesh, enthralled everyone, bursting the audience in multiple rounds of applauds for the artists.
More than 300 people including, several eminent personalities from Administration, Academia, Corporate, Politics and Media graced the spectacular event with their presence. GLBIMR concluded the day with a promise of organizing more such events.
