The chief national coach, Badminton&dronacharya award winner pullela gopichand has set up a world class badminton academy at shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Sports Complex in Greater Nelda,Uttar Pradesh to deepen the roots of the game in this port of the country and create a strong Badminton culture. It is a unique facility wherein 3 different agencies are coming together to make this happen- PGBA,GNIDA and Sportzlive. The threefold responsibility of technical management, faculities management and commercial management will be fulfilled by PGBA, SVSP Sports Complex and Sportzlive respectively.This academy is housed at SVSP Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art intergraded sports complex created by GNIDA, with an investment of over INR 130 crores. Upto 150 students from and around Greater Noida shall be trained alongside 25 high potential/budding players from other parts of the country. 25 Trainees belonging to financially week category will be sponsored by GNIDA. The academy will also host a number of competitive and promotional tournaments and may also be used for Indian national Badminton Team’s practice venue.The holistic development coaching programme, methods & techniques developed based on Gopichand’s experiences and knowledge gathered for over a decade, shall focus on making children champions in life through ”positive experience” model. The academy will have top quality coaches both from India and form abroad from badminton powers like Malaysia and Indonesia,ably supported by highly qualified and experienced support staff along with Sport Science Psychology support from one of the prestigious Sports Science Centre. Yonex Sunrise shall be the official equipment partner. The Gopichand academy, managed by Sportzlive a leading Sports Management/ marketing company, Intends to become a centre of eXCellence to nurture the talent of the region as well as broad-base the interest in the game in this region. The academy has an area of about 30,000 square feet and will have about 10 courts.
